About the Canadian Offset Registry
A free, public, map-based directory of habitat offset and habitat banking projects across Canada. Built to bring transparency to an emerging market.
Our purpose
Habitat banking and biodiversity offsetting are well-established in many countries. The United Kingdom, Australia, Germany, and the United States have all run credit-based markets for years. In Canada the framework is just emerging, the projects are scattered across federal, provincial, and non-government programs, and there is no single place to discover them.
COR is that single place. We aggregate habitat offset and restoration projects from public datasets, accept direct submissions from project holders, and present them on a searchable map so that proponents, regulators, conservation organizations, First Nations, and landowners can find one another.
We don't broker credits, charge listing fees, or take a cut of any transaction. Our role is to make the market visible.
AJM Environmental built COR to advance a belief at the core of our work: enabling responsible development. Development and conservation can move forward together when offsetting is transparent, faster, and more certain. For the organizations that carry environmental obligations, that can mean shorter timelines, more predictable costs, and less regulatory risk. The registry exists to help make that the norm in Canada.
What COR is, and isn't
COR is:
- A public marketplace and information directory
- A map of restoration and offset projects across Canada
- A way to connect proponents with project holders
COR is not:
- Affiliated with the Government of Canada or any regulator
- A regulatory approval; listings don't certify a credit
- A broker or escrow service; buyers contact project holders directly
Whether a particular project satisfies a specific legal requirement is always determined by the relevant regulator (Fisheries and Oceans Canada, provincial agencies, municipalities, etc.).
Who runs COR
The Canadian Offset Registry is built and maintained by AJM Environmental Inc., a private environmental consulting firm based in Alberta, Canada.
We've worked across habitat restoration, wetland delineation, species-at-risk surveys, and environmental impact assessment in Western Canada for years. We launched COR because we kept hearing the same question from clients, regulators, and conservation groups: “where can I see what projects exist?” Nowhere. So we built it.
COR is operated independently. No government department, regulator, or industry sponsor funds or controls the registry.
Where the data comes from
Listings come from two sources:
- Direct submissions. Organizations, First Nations, landowners, and consultantslist their project. Every submission is reviewed by our team before it appears on the public map.
- Public datasets. We aggregate from authoritative public sources, with attribution and links back to the original.
