About the Canadian Offset Registry
A public, map-based registry where those who need habitat offsets can find the groups who create them and connect directly, and a team that can make introductions when it helps.
Our purpose
Habitat banking and biodiversity offsetting are well-established in many countries. The United Kingdom, Australia, Germany, and the United States have all run credit-based markets for years. In Canada the framework is just emerging, the projects are scattered across federal, provincial, and non-government programs, and there is no single place to discover them.
COR is that single place. We compile habitat offset and restoration projects from public datasets, accept direct submissions from offset providers, and present them on a searchable map so that proponents, regulators, conservation organizations, First Nations, and landowners can find one another.
Many connections happen directly through the listings. When it helps, we can also make an introduction: proponents can tell us what they need to offset, offset providers can tell us privately what they could deliver, and the COR team looks for a fit and introduces both sides, only with both parties' consent. AJM Environmental built COR to advance a belief at the core of our work: enabling responsible development. Development and conservation can move forward together when offsetting is transparent, faster, and more certain. For the organizations that carry environmental obligations, that can mean shorter timelines, more predictable costs, and less regulatory risk. The registry exists to help make that the norm in Canada.
What COR is, and isn't
COR is:
- A public registry and map of restoration and offset projects across Canada
- A place for proponents to tell us about offset needs
- A team that can make introductions when it helps, with both parties' consent
COR is not:
- Affiliated with the Government of Canada or any regulator
- A regulatory approval. A listing does not certify a credit or an offset.
- A holder of funds. COR does not hold money or process transactions.
Whether a particular project satisfies a specific legal requirement is always determined by the relevant regulator (Fisheries and Oceans Canada, provincial agencies, municipalities, etc.).
Who runs COR
The Canadian Offset Registry is built and maintained by AJM Environmental Inc., a private environmental consulting firm based in Alberta, Canada.
We've worked across habitat restoration, wetland delineation, species-at-risk surveys, and environmental impact assessment in Western Canada for years. We launched COR because we kept hearing the same question from clients, regulators, and conservation groups: “where can I see what projects exist?” Nowhere. So we built it.
COR is operated by AJM Environmental Inc., an environmental consulting firm. Parties are never required to use AJM’s services. Information shared with COR is used only as described in our privacy policy.
No government department, regulator, or industry sponsor funds or controls the registry.
Where the data comes from
Listings come from two sources:
- Direct submissions. Organizations, First Nations, landowners, and consultantslist their project. Every submission is reviewed by our team before it appears on the public map.
- Public data. So the registry is useful from day one, we also compile projects from publicly available government datasets released under open licences, such as the Open Government Licence – Canada. These listings are clearly labeled as compiled from public data, are attributed and linked back to the original source, and were not submitted by the organizations named. Inclusion does not imply an organization's endorsement or participation.
